In celebration of National Planting Day, GIZ Laos joined forces with local authorities—including the Luang Prabang Provincial Government and the Provincial Agriculture Forestry Office —alongside community members and representatives from DSK Group for a tree planting event in the Phu Pheung Forest Reserve (Mineral Factory Water Sources), Donkang Village, Luang Prabang Province.

Over 250 participants - including students, villagers, government partners, and private sector representatives - came together to plant 1,000 native trees on Day 1. This marks the beginning of a larger effort to restore a 13.5-hectare water resource area - once degraded, now on its path to becoming a vibrant forest of 10,000 trees.

This initiative directly supports Laos’ national goals to restore forest landscapes and achieve 70% forest cover by 2035, contributing to forest restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Through #GIZ Laos, we are proud to support these priorities and the global Sustainable Development Goals.

We’re also excited to explore opportunities for collaboration with DSK Group in sustainable forest management, recognising that real, lasting impact depends on strong partnerships between communities, government, and the private sector.

This activity is part of a broader commitment under GIZ’s ongoing support to climate and forest initiatives in Lao PDR, including two key projects:

The Protection and Sustainable Use of Forest Ecosystems and Biodiversity (ProFEB) project is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union. ProFEB is the forest sustainable component of “Team Europe Partnership with Lao PDR to increase and inclusive trade, investment and connectivity in the agriculture and forestry sectors (TICAF)”

The Climate Protection through Avoided Deforestation (CliPAD) Project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Green Climate Fund and is implemented in partnership with the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. As a key component of Lao PDR’s international climate finance strategy, CliPAD promotes sustainable forest management, sustainable agriculture practices, the implementation of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), and community-based land use planning. The project is carried out in close collaboration with bilateral and multilateral partners, including the Asian Development Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, KfW Development Bank, the World Bank, and private sector actors.

This is just the beginning—follow us for updates as we grow a greener, more resilient future together!
