Global challenges can only be overcome through joint action. That is why partnerships are needed at many levels. All countries and stakeholders – public and private – should play their part. Donor countries should make 0.7 per cent of their gross national income available for poorer countries.

Greater strength through partnership

‘Together we can achieve more’ is a principle that is especially relevant in international cooperation. The global challenges and complexity of the issues at stake are too vast to be tackled by one organisation alone. Donors are therefore bundling their approaches more and more. Cofinancing arrangements involving GIZ are on the rise, and cooperation is becoming increasingly important in implementation.

Agenda 2030

Nothing less than the ‘transformation of our world’ is at the centre of the 2030 Agenda. Economic progress worldwide should be in harmony with social justice and the protection of natural resources.

Since its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the 2030 Agenda, together with the Paris Climate Agreement, has been the guiding principle of German development cooperation and the overarching framework to which GIZ aligns its work.
