Colombia has ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), which aims to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 51% by 2030. The country is currently formulating its Just Energy Transition Roadmap as well as updating its National Biodiversity Action Plan in line with the new Global Biodiversity Framework. A widespread challenge is implementing these and other policies, in terms of securing financing and policy coherence, as well as monitoring their impacts.
The project supports Colombia in the implementation of its climate, energy and biodiversity targets, addressing the country’s strategy for NDC implementation, long-term decarbonisation strategy, Climate Action law, NBSAP and strategy for SDG implementation. To achieve this, the project will adopt a gender-responsive advisory approach. Output I strengthens enabling mechanisms for the implementation of climate goals and Just Energy Transition. Output II promotes low-carbon, climate-resilient operations in the industry and mining-energy sectors, also addressing sustainable biodiversity management. Output III strengthens enabling conditions for Colombia's biodiversity targets in coherence with the GBF. The project supports political dialogue in the above-mentioned topics in the framework of the Colombian-German Climate and Energy Partnership, as well as promoting knowledge exchange and networking through Output IV’s interface function.
