Content

Solving global challenges requires efficient cooperation among private and public sector actors. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has therefore been cooperating with companies through the develoPPP funding programme since 1997. The companies in question are often industry leaders and drivers of innovation in their particular fields.

Joint projects connect the expertise offered by both sides. The companies bring their industry-specific knowledge, new technologies and creative approaches, while GIZ provides development policy expertise, skilled staff in the field and a global network encompassing policymakers, the private sector and civil society.

Objective

This is a win-win situation that creates success for the companies and development policy benefits for local people.

Approach

With its develoPPP Classic and develoPPP Ventures tools, the programme offers tailored funding options for established companies and emerging start-ups alike.

Prospective companies can apply for funding in regular ideas competitions. Partnerships can be established in all partner countries of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The potential industries and topics are extremely diverse. Examples include training local experts, piloting innovative technologies, securing value chains and improving environmental and social standards.

BMZ provides funding of up to EUR two million for suitable initiatives, and the companies must cover at least half of the total costs themselves.

GIZ is one of two implementing organisations for the programme, alongside DEG Impulse gGmbH.
